"peaceful gender outsiders" is so beautiful, I will borrow these words - and I did not know the history of deadnaming - it makes so much sense once I read it. Thank you

On point, and expertly stated CD.

CD I just liked it without reading bc I trust you to gather the facts and present them correctly and fairly. I'll read later.

I didn’t know this, and I imagine a lot of trans youth don’t know this either nor use it that way. But it makes sense.

This should be mandatory reading for anyone who works with youth. Because if you work with youth, even if you don't realize it, you work with LGBT youth.

That is one of the things that is so heartbreaking (and makes me rage-y) about this entire situation: that most transphobes have never spent an appreciable amount of time with a transgender person and probably don't even know one.

It's just blind "othering" and demonization.

And I agree--this should be mandatory reading. All people who work with youth should be forced to undergo education on LGBTQ issues.

I think about my extensive volunteering record (particularly with youth theatre and junior high theatre) and I shudder to think of how some of those kids would have been treated by a right winger or even just someone who wasn't knowledgeable about the issues.

That is a good point.

Someone once put it this way: if someone dies, and we don’t know them or their people, we tend to dismiss it.

But we won’t let a member of our family go without toothpaste.
