The Williams sisters (Venus and Serena) talk about the "creep factor", so sadly this is nothing new. Still infuriating and I wish bearing the brunt of violence and harassment were not the case for us women, but this has been happening for a while and maddeningly, with the new fascist administration, I see things getting worse, and not better.
On a side note, why do you spell some words with the British spelling (like "behaviour")? I was under the impression you were born and raised in the US…
Then moved back to the US, but my computer has a Canadian dictionary uploaded, so it tends to autocorrect things to Brit spellings even when I type it American. (The Canadian **dictionaries** are identical to the Brit ones, even though Canadian **people** really don't care if you spell things the US way.)
Ah, thank you for explaining! I really appreciate it!
FWIW, the only reason I point out British orthography is because it’s a shibboleth to us Americans. To me, it says “this person is not from the US” To be clear, as with your story, the reality could be far more complicated, and in no way am I saying that not being American is a bad thing at all! It’s just that the spelling is a dead giveaway.
Thank you. Substack is doing weird things to the comments in trying to automate killing these spambots. It made both your comment and the spam invisible even to me while still counting both your comments in the comment total for the thread for a while. It was frustrating b/c I knew there were two comments I was missing and I assumed (wrongly) that both were spam, but I couldn't do anything about them. 12 hours later I got an e-mail about the one spam comment, verified it was spam, and then the comment number was only off by one. Now your comment shows up -- finally -- but I was thinking maybe there was still one more spam comment in the system.
I assume that your comment was a reply to the spam? That would probably explain things -- they hid the spam "thread" rather than just the spam comment.
I like your writing, even though I don't always understand the issues behind what you're writing about. I'm glad to be a subscriber to your substack and at Wonkette.
Please know that if you have any questions, I'm always happy to answer. (And not just for you and other subscribers. If someone reading along is not a subscriber, they can ask questions, also, too!)
These women aren't just excellent, they're very brave. Thank you.

Yes, but became a Canadian perm resident.

It looks like it's already been cleared.

If no one is laughing, it's not a joke, it's abuse.
Ain't that the truth.
