Ok, as a Brit, I will add that this is just not cricket! Seriously, this kind of criticism is not done here until VERY recently, as a general rule, which is why the story made the national news. As far as I know, this is the first time it has happened in a large event in Britain.

That said, the response from the organisers was crap.

I thought the response from the athlete was good though. Can we give her some credit for saying the right thing, and shaming the trolls, the press, AND the athletics boards in one go?!

What I saw her saying in the Independent was pretty limited. Do you have a link to a fuller statement? I'd love to see a great statement and praise her for it.

No, sorry. I was only responding to her comment that you quoted, saying that no one should be facing this kind of harassment.

It was the part where she didn’t put any qualifiers onto it that I liked. Just that: no one.

That's fair. I probably should have emphasized that more.

There’s also the inherent misogyny in male athletes are superior to female athletes in all areas. Then there’s the idea that no female can possibly be better than another female unless that female was AMAB. Unless you are someone like Simpne Biles, chances are there are better female athletes than you in whatever you are competing.

No one is protecting anyone when they are demanding to look at someone’s genitals.

A woman won the popular vote in a presidential election. The right cannot ever let that happen again. Women (however they are) are not people, they cannot be allowed to excel and challenge the patriarchy

Also illustrates the point that the transphobia is not endgame; it's persecuting anyone who doesn't perform femininity/masculinity up to standard.

It’s just….unfathomable! The brutal and senseless stupidity of so many people, who usually view themselves as paragons of religious or other meaningless virtue, is mindboggling! Sad.

It's a tragedy that nobody will hire me to run their social media so I can spend my day replying "What the fuck is wrong with you?!" to this nonsense. ESPECIALLY to the people who think that "see? She's a real girl!" is an appropriate response to transphobia.

I'd also like to mention that I've noticed that the people who "protect women" by demanding a peek inside our bloomers don't actually engage in any other forms of activism that serves to protect women. Maybe if they'd spend less time shoving cameras up skirts, they'd have time to throw a fundraiser to give a poor college girl some spending money, or to pay for an abortion, or to train bears to eat any men they meet in the woods. You know, actual helpful stuff.

Spot on. So often on SM (at least in the uk) there are so many men standing up for “real women” but really all they care about is maligning trans women who they invariably refer to as men and using the opportunity to use crude and demeaning language. Almost invariably they are wholly ignorant of other issues which affect women arguably far more seriously like the appalling failure to prosecute sexual assault and rape or rampant abuse of women on SM.

Absolutely awful and the responses from the organizers were really weak tea.

They absolutely refuse to get that transphobia is a self-own too and only makes the world worse. Also amazing that most of their attacks against people they want to claim are trans women; again trans men are ignored here because it's all about control, and trans people are a convenient minority to beat up politically too. It's so grim.
